The holidays are the perfect time to make fun crafts, which build fine motor and listening skills!
Students have so much fun creating this Christmas wreath craft, and it's perfect to hang in the classroom or for students to take home.
Here are the supplies, preparation, and easy steps for creating the Christmas wreath craft with your students.
Supplies for Christmas Wreath Craft:
- paper plate (these thin ones with ridges on the side work best)
- green construction paper
- red construction paper
- glue
- scissors
Preparation for Christmas Wreath Craft:
- Cut out the center of the paper plate. (I do this ahead of time for students.) This is how I cut out the center. Fold the plate in half cutting a small slit in the middle of the plate. Open the plate back up, and insert your scissors in the small slit. Then cut around the inside of the circle, leaving just the outside rim with ridges.
- Prepare a strip of green construction paper for each student. (A strip that is about 4 inches x 11 inches should be plenty.)
- Prepare 7 red construction paper squares for each student. (1 inch x 1 inch is a good size, but you can make them any size you would like. These will be the berries on the wreath.)
- Prepare 4 strips of red construction paper for each student. These strips work well if they are 4 inches x 1 inch. These will be for the bow on the wreath.
Directions for Christmas Wreath Craft:
- Distribute a paper plate and a strip of green construction paper to each student.
- Students tear and glue small pieces of construction paper filling the entire white rim of the plate.
- Distribute 7 small red construction paper squares to each student.
- Take one square at a time and have students cut off all four corners of the square.
- Then, students cut off the remaining pointy edges all around the square, turning it into a circle. Remind them to do very small cuts.
- Students glue the red circle berries onto the green wreath, leaving a space at the bottom for the box.
- Distribute the four red rectangle strips to students. Students will glue two of the strips downward hanging off of the plate.
- Then students will take one of the remaining red strips, loop it and glue it down to make one side of the bow.
- Take the last red strip, and loop it making the other side of the bow, and glue it on.
This Christmas wreath craft is so much fun to make with students. It really builds listening skills, stamina and fine motor skills. Students are so proud of their creations when complete!
