Kindergarten Valentine's Day Activities

Looking for some ideas for Valentine's Day activities in your classroom?

We start off our Kindergarten Valentine's Day theme with a read aloud about kindness. Have you read the story Heartprints by P.K. Hallinan?
SHOP NOW for Heartprints!

It is a board book, but I still love it for Kindergarten! It explains how our kind actions can leave lasting impressions on the hearts of others - heartprints! We use this story to generate kind words and saying for our Valentine's Day "Kind Words" List.

Students love to create Valentine's Day cards for their friends and families!  Then students use our previously created kind words to create their own Valentine's.

We also make a list of a few Valentine's Day words. This list helps students when they are reading the sentences from our Valentine's Day Read and Color.
We read the story There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose to complete a sequencing activity.

Students draw and label their own items, and then put them in order and glue to a construction paper strip. Simple as far as supplies go, but its gets my Kinders using some higher level thinking skills!

We also use some of our Valentine's Day read alouds to focus on the basic story elements of characters and setting as well.

One of our favorite activities is to vote on a few of our favorite stories! After we have read about four books, students vote and write about their favorite Valentine's Day book that we have read. We create a graph and then the winning book title is on display for a few days in our classroom in the Star Student area! When students receive a Star Student award, they are allowed to look at our Star Book! We vote on our favorite books several times throughout the year and the students love it!

For every holiday, we usually have a Roll and Cover center activity. or a Roll and Color center activity. My Kinders just love dice! They love to try out different types of dice, so I try to keep our center stocked with several varieties!
