Letter U: Learning About the Vowels

Is your class working on learning the vowel sounds? The practice sheets available in my Letter Uu Bundled resource can help students learn and remember the short sound of Uu.

Early in the year, I start by teaching the Uu sound at the beginning of the word and we make a class word list of words that start with Uu. We read My 'u' Sound Box book to familiarize the students with the vowel sound.  Later in the year, students are ready to move onto finding the sound, not only in the beginning of the word but also the end and the middle of the word. Students need to be familiar with the sound so they can be successful when sounding out CVC words.

When we begin working on CVC words with the short Uu sound, visuals are helpful for Kindergarten students. The picture cards with accompanying written words are a great visual for young learners! Place the colored cards in your pocket chart, and have the students color the black and white images.

Use this resource for extra practice or an assessment. Included are sight word sentences, a graphic organizer, drawing activities, matching activities and more! You can access this short Uu bundle in my TeachersPayTeachers Store!
