Winter Sight Word Book

Do your students love emergent reader books? My Kinders get so excited when we introduce new sight word books! We read them together as a class, they read them with their peers, read to self and then take them home.

Students store books at home in their Reading Book Boxes. They made Reading Book Boxes at the beginning of the year with their families and keep them at home.

These book boxes are the perfect place for them to collect their sight words books throughout the year! At the end of the year, they have a great collection of books that they can read!

This winter sight word emergent reader has nine pages full of Kindergarten sight words. The sentences are predictable text making the book perfect for early readers! Before reading the book, we make a list of winter activities! The students are excited to share their favorite winter activities. After creating our winter activity list, we introduce the book. The students discover many of the same ideas from our class list in the book. Students color the cute black and white images and then butter up our popcorn words.

Do you butter up popcorn words in your Kindergarten class?!? If you don't, it's a lot of fun! Check it out below!

We call our sight word, "popcorn" words for two reasons. They have to pop right out of out mouth, we have to know them by sight because we can not always sound them out. Also, they are called popcorn words,  because they are popping up all over the place when we are reading!

All popcorn needs butter right?!? The students "butter" our popcorn words when they find them in the text. They use crayons, highlighters, or markers depending on the activity! They get the biggest kick out of getting our their butter! It helps get them excited about searching for sight words!

You can download the nine page winter sight word book in my TpT Store. There are also some winter FREEBIES to print and use in your classroom! I hope these resources help you while planning your your winter lessons! Happy Teaching!
