Kindergarten Valentine's Day Math

Looking for a engaging game to play with your students in February? This Valentine's Day number game includes heart number cards with the numbers 1 - 20. Also included in the game are heart number cards for counting by 10s to 100! You can select the number cards that you would like to use depending on what skill you are working on in your classroom.

After printing, laminating and cutting apart the selected number cards, place the number cards in a pocket chart. I use one like the picture below. You can also sometimes find smaller pocket charts in the dollar section at Target or even at the dollar store.

Once the number cards are neatly placed in the pocket chart, select one of the Valentine's Day images to use for the hidden picture (these are provided in the Valentine's Day Number Game resource). Hide your selected picture behind one of the number cards. Once you have given each student a recording sheet, allow them to take turns guessing where the hidden picture could be. (The recording sheet is included in the resource.)

When a student selects a number, everyone writes that number on their recording sheet and the students takes a peek behind the selected number to see if the picture is hiding behind that particular number. Allow students to take turns guessing numbers, everyone records the number and the students peeks behind the number.

The students will be so excited to find the hidden picture!! My students love the suspense of this game! Be sure to circle the winning number on the recording sheet, where the hidden picture was found! Hide the same picture again, or select a different picture to hide and keep on playing!
